Everyone wants to be happy, it's everyone's greatest desire, every goal that we reach for, every longing that we have, ultimately leads to us wanting to be happy. It is the entire purpose of our existence, "Men are that they might have joy" So what really makes us deep down happy?
Our world today is confused about happiness. For me, I don't think happiness is necessarily the laugh out loud, hyper, crazy kind of happy. I think its contentment and peace inside ourselves.
There are two kinds of happiness. Drive through happiness and long lasting happiness.
Drive through happiness is getting that outfit you wanted or that new toy you wanted or eating chocolate or whatever makes you happy right then, in the moment. But does that last? Does that truly make you happy? Or can it be taken away, die down, and then you need your next fix of new clothes or chocolate?
Lasting happiness is just that- it lasts. It can't be taken away from you it is a part of you and this is more worthy of striving for and more fulfilling. This comes from doing good and being good. It comes from being kind and helping others, learning something new, using your talents to better those around you, it comes from an attitude of positivity, optimism, hope, faith and love.
Of course, buying shoes and eating chocolate isn't bad but if we count on those things to bring us lasting happiness we will be sorely dissapointed. "Lay up for yourselves treasures in Heaven"
