There is no better feeling in the whole world then when you have done something that hurt someone and you feel so bad and you beg for forgiveness and they freely forgive you and allow you to move on and move forward. When people forgive me it makes me want to forgive everyone I know for everything and shout "Just keep going! Don't look back, just do better, you're doing great!"
Mistakes are inevitable and we are all going to do things we regret in this life. Elder Holland says "Imperfect people are all God has ever had to work with, it must be terribly frustrating to him but he deals with it, so should we"
Two conferences ago something that really stuck out to me was "Forgive everyone, everything, all the time thus allowing forgiveness into your own life"
President Monson say's "Blame keeps wounds open, only forgiveness heals"
If we've done something wrong, if were shackled in chains of guilt and shame I believe that our loving Heavenly Father WANTS to forgive us. Elder Holland has said "that must be what God enjoys most about being God, extending forgiveness, especially to those who don't feel they deserve it." We have a much harder time forgiving ourselves then God has forgiving us. He says that "as often as we repent and seek forgiveness with real intent we are forgiven"- Moroni 6:8
We can't escape the consequences of our poor choices but we can be healed and redeemed. Sometimes it takes time to heal and repair but Heavenly Father will comfort and love us during that time.
Elder Holland says that Satan tries to get us to believe that changing takes forever, but we can change the moment we decide to! We may have a lifetime to prove that the change is real and lasting but we can change the moment we decide to change.
Basically i'm just grateful that God is so kind, and merciful and forgiving and that Christ made it all possible. Elder Packer has said "It would be a very difficult world to live in if we couldn't be forgiven of our mistakes and move forward"
I've decided that I am going to forgive everyone, everything all the time even before anything happens or while something is happening, I refuse to believe anything negative about anyone else. "We are all beloved spirit sons and daughters of God". Yes, people do things to hurt and offend and annoy but you can't drive out the darkness by cursing it, you can only drive it out by lighting a candle and like Elder Erying said this last conference "Only God knows Hearts"
It's not easy to forgive, I've struggled with it for years but forgiving means letting it go, not holding anything against someone, and just loving regardless. The real person it frees is you.
We all need forgiveness, It's a gift from God, He loves to give us gifts, let others receive it and receive it for yourself.
"Be Kind and be grateful that God is kind, it is a happy way to live"
